The Providence City Council has passed a resolution calling for the closure of the scrap yard on Allens Avenue which has been the source of ongoing environmental threats, including a fire in April.

Rhode Island Recycled Metals has been involved in disputes with the city in the past and was ordered a cease and desist order in March because it was operating without a license.

Councilman Pedro Espinal says the scrapyard is a hazard and must be held accountable for its repeated violations and disregard for public safety.
